Lamine Yamal is following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi by changing to the No. 19 shirt for Barcelona next season.
Barcelona have confirmed that youngsters Lamine Yamal and Pau Gubarsi have officially been register as first-team players, paving the way for them to choose new jersey numbers for next season, with the 17-year-old forward following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi to wear the No.19 shirt at the Blaugrana, Ufabet reports on Wednesday.
Yamal and Gubarsi play as youth players last season, wearing the numbers 27 and 33 respectively, but once they are officially register as first-team players, Yamal will switch to the number 19, like Messi, who chose the number for the second time in 2006, UFABET the same number he wore as Spain won Euro 2024.
The number 19 shirt was previously worn by Vitor Roque, who join from Atletico Paranaense in January. The Brazilian forward will now have to switch to another number if he is to remain at the club next season.
Previous reports have suggested that Yamal is also interest in the No.10 shirt. But he will take no action out of respect for its owner. Ansu Fati, after the 21-year-old returned from Brighton on loan last season.
For Gubarsi, there is no word yet on which number the 17-year-old defender will choose. With the number 12 now available or 17 following the departure of Marcos Alonso.
