‘It’s a big challenge and a new challenge for me. I have been at the club for 17 years now and I am looking forward to meeting many new people. Everything is bigger There is a different approach. It will be really exciting for me. Personally, it means my life is about to change a bit. I’m really looking forward to the new challenge.’

Freud also revealed details about how he came to work as a sports director. It started with a big loss.

‘It was not clear that I would go this route. I stopped playing football when I was 24 because my father suddenly passed away. Then I took over my parents’ business. After 4 or 5 years, I started wanting to do something different in my life. Then I got the chance to start with Red Bull Salzburg in 2006 and it turned out that way. However, this was not planned in advance. But it was great that I got the opportunity there. And in the past few years there have been such developments.’ said the 46-year-old director.
